The Challenge:

Inefficient Milking Plagues Dairy Farm

This milking operation was slow, unreliable, and experienced washing/grading issues. With a large number of cows to milk daily, the staff was confined to the shed for most of the day, making the milking operation an unenjoyable slog. Staff retention was difficult because of this so the owner approached Morrison Agri to identify and eliminate their problems.

The Morrison Agri  Solutions:

Morrison Agri Executes System Overhaul

This four-week project required an intensive overhaul of inline milk system componentry and infrastructure. Morrison Agri improved efficiencies and saved milking time by:

  • Upgrading the main airline to100mm
  • Upgrading milk receiving can and sanitary trap
  • Upgrading the pulsation line to 63mm and upgrading the main airline to 100mm which provides a vacuum to the plant.
  • Installing Waikato brand Smart Puls 2+2 pulsators that deliver gentle, swift, and clean diaphragm pulsation, which is ‘rippled’ for better vacuum stability.
  • Installing Waikato brand 320 claws which allow for higher milk volumes and flow rates with more stable vacuum properties.
  • Installing a new milk pump and variable speed drive
  • Installing Waikato brand G2 cluster washers and upgrading the 50mm jetter feed line to 63mm which increased the flow for a faster, more efficient wash.

The Outcomes:

Remarkable Efficiency Boosts Staff Retention

Vastly improved milking times and process efficiencies. “The client is very happy with the gains he’s made in the operation. It’s 100 times better and he’s never looked back,” says Paul Morrison of Morrison Agri.

Staff retention also improved since they are no longer tethered to an inefficient shed.
